CRITI Utilizes Trauma Informed Care (TIC) Approach with Program Participants
CRITI is one of the many programs that uses a Trauma Informed Care (TIC) approach with our participants, which means that we recognize many of the women and children who come into our program have experienced various forms of trauma. This treatment framework emphasizes understanding, compassion, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma. TIC looks at the physical, psychological, and emotional safety of our participants and provides tools to empower them to becoming self-sufficient.
Trauma affects the individual, families, and communities by disrupting healthy development, adversely affecting relationships, and contributing to mental health issues including substance abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse. When a community produces multi-generations of people with untreated trauma, everyone pays a price. Our first step towards TIC is understanding the impact trauma has had on an individual and responding with compassion.
